Quarter Life Pressure

Hi there. Let me tell you something you may already know (if you are above 25) or are expecting to encounter soon (if you are 18 and below). When you’ve reached the approximate first quarter marker in your lifeline, you are beset with certain pressures which aren’t necessarily new, but lay more weight now more than ever.

“What am I to do with my life?”—essentially, this sums all the possible reflections you will go through during a quarter life crisis.

I have been active in creative pursuits since I could remember, and it is with writing where my foundations are most solid and have actually followed through career-wise. But I am also greatly—perhaps even more—interested in the visual arts, and dabbled with it much longer than I did with words, but did so lightly and inconsistently. I must admit, I regret that very much.

Now at 23, with many batch mates beginning to edifying their respective career paths, I honestly feel pressured for being in limbo with my artistic inclinations. So I figured that whatever measly talent I have in handling brushes and pencils, there’s no better time to decide whether to give up on it entirely or pursue it most passionately than now. I can perhaps live with just my writing skills but with that already a main part of my workload, I need a venue which is primarily personal—which I believe would be the visual arts.

So pardon my amateur skills. I haven’t practiced as much when I was younger, but I’m still very eager to make up for it. We’ll see! Thanks for stopping by and I hope that this inspires you to work on whatever it is breathing down your neck, saying, “When the fuck are you gonna start taking me seriously?”

Peace. Love. Bliss.
Jei
